ACLJ:
House Approval of Ban on Partial-Birth Abortion
"Important Victory for the Preservation of Human Life"
October 2, 2003
(Washington,
DC) - The American Center for Law and Justice, an international
public interest law firm specializing in constitutional law, said
today's approval of a ban on partial-birth abortion by the U.S.
House of Representatives is an important victory for the preservation
of human life.
"We're
delighted that the House acted without delay to approve the final
version of legislation banning the gruesome procedure known as partial-birth
abortion," said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ, which
has worked with members of Congress on the measure. "This vote
represents an important victory for the preservation of human life
and signifies the beginning of another legal battle to be underway
soon regarding the constitutionality of the law. Once the measure
is approved by the Senate and signed into law by President Bush,
the pro-abortion lobby will bring legal challenges immediately.
We have worked closely with those who crafted this measure. We are
confident that the ban will survive a constitutional challenge and
we are committed to defending this law in court."
