Pro-Life T-Shirts Banned from Bridge

(CNSNews.com) - A pro-life group says its free speech rights were violated, when patrol officers ordered a group of college students to remove their pro-life T-shirts before walking across the Golden Gate Bridge. "Pro-life Americans should not be targeted for discrimination -- especially in the San Francisco Bay area, where the right to free expression is held in high regard," said Adam Redmon, the director of Crossroads. The group -- a division of the American Life League - is sponsoring its annual summertime walk across the country. Pro-life college students stop along the way, praying at abortion clinics, speaking at churches, and doing what they can to educate the public about abortion. As the walkers left San Francisco, they said they were stopped by Golden Gate bridge patrol officers, who told them their T-shirts were a form of political protest and therefore not allowed on the bridge. The T-shirts read "Pro-Life" on the front and had an American flag on the back. According to officers, the walkers faced fines and possible jail time for refusing to remove or coverup their shirts. Redmon called it a disturbing trend. "We have contacted our lawyers about the incident on the Golden Gate Bridge. We want to right this wrong before others are subjected to the discriminatory whim of the bridge patrol."
