Victory for Virginia Pro-Lifers

(CNSNews.com) - Virginia is the first state to outlaw partial birth abortions since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down similar bans passed by a majority of the states. On Thursday, the Virginia legislature gave final approval to a bill making it illegal for doctors to perform "medically induced infanticide," except to protect the life of the mother or to prevent "substantial or irreversible impairment of a major bodily function." The bill is on its way to Virginia Gov. Mark Warner (D), who is said to be "reviewing" it, to see if it will stand up to legal scrutiny. The Washington Post described the bill's passage as a major victory for those who oppose abortion. The bill punishes anyone who "deliberately and intentionally performs either the delivery of a living fetus or a substantial portion thereof...for the purpose of performing a subprocedure intended to kill the fetus."
