(Pro-life Infonet) New York, NY -- In his war against pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) has New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer forgotten this interest?

Attorney General Spitzer has issued broad and intrusive investigatory
subpoenas with no advance warning on PRCs throughout the state of New
York. The PRCs stand accused, among other things, of false and deceptive
practices, but Spitzer has refused to set forth any good faith basis for
such allegations, despite numerous requests to do so.

Here are some facts -- disturbing facts -- about abortion in New York:

-- New York has one of the highest abortion rates in the nation.

-- Nationwide, there are about 306 abortions per 1,000 live births. In New
York City and surrounding areas, the number is easily more than twice that
-- 805 abortions per 1,000 live births, or 45 percent of pregnancies
ending in abortion.

-- In the Bronx alone, there are now more abortions than live births --
1,029 abortions to 1,000 live births, 51 percent of pregnancies ending in
abortion

-- In Brooklyn, 58 percent of pregnancies within the African-American
community --1,383.4 abortions per 1,000 live births -- end in abortion.

-- With 133,000 abortions each year, New York alone accounts for fully 10
percent of all abortions that take place each year in the United States.
The New York City area alone accounts for 109,000 of the state's total.

These numbers are alarming. With abortion rates this high, why is Attorney
General Spitzer attacking the very volunteers who are offering hope and
help to women who want alternatives to abortion?
